Distilled Water (INCI: Aqua) is the most fundamental ingredient in cosmetic and personal care formulation. Virtually every water-based cosmetic product — from toners and serums to creams, shampoos, and body mists — requires a pure, mineral-free water base. Our cosmetic grade distilled water is triple distilled and completely free from minerals, chlorine, bacteria, and dissolved impurities, making it a reliable and consistent base for your formulations.

Why Distilled Water and Not Tap Water?

Tap water contains dissolved minerals, chlorine, heavy metals, and microbial contaminants that can interfere with your formulation in several ways — destabilizing emulsions, reducing the efficacy of active ingredients, causing discoloration, shortening shelf life, and introducing microbial risk. Distilled water eliminates all of these variables, giving you a clean, neutral, and consistent base every single time.

For any serious DIY formulator or cosmetic brand, distilled water is not optional — it is the correct starting point for every water-phase ingredient.

Key Benefits & Properties

  • Triple Distilled Purity — multiple distillation cycles remove virtually all dissolved solids, minerals, and contaminants
  • Mineral & Chlorine Free — eliminates the risk of mineral interference with active ingredients and preservative systems
  • Neutral pH — does not shift the pH of your formulation, giving you full control over your formula's pH profile
  • Microbial Safety — free from bacteria and microorganisms that could compromise product stability and safety
  • Emulsion Stability — ensures reliable and consistent emulsion formation in creams and lotions
  • Preservative Compatibility — does not interfere with or deactivate your chosen preservative system

Applications in Cosmetic Formulation

Skincare Distilled water forms the water phase in virtually all skincare emulsions including moisturizers, day creams, night creams, serums, toners, micellar waters, and face mists. It is also used to dissolve water-soluble actives such as Niacinamide, Alpha Arbutin, Hyaluronic Acid, and Glycolic Acid before incorporation into a formula.

Haircare Used as the base in shampoos, conditioners, hair serums, scalp treatments, and leave-in sprays. Mineral-free water prevents buildup on the hair shaft and ensures even distribution of active ingredients.

Fragrance & Body Mists Distilled water is the standard diluent for water-based body mists and cologne sprays, used alongside alcohol or DPG to achieve the desired concentration and spray consistency.

Dilution of Concentrates Many cosmetic actives and extracts are supplied at high concentrations and require dilution before use. Distilled water is the correct diluent for all water-soluble cosmetic ingredients.
